#1. Diehl Park

The size of Diehl Park is 39.77 acres. Along with the Kids Creation Playground, there are four fields for girls’ baseball and one for boys’ baseball, two shelter houses, and a play area. In 2017, new playground equipment was put in, and in the summer of 2001, new lighting was built for the ball fields.
“If You Build It, We Will Play” is the children’s version of the creation tale.
Leathers and Assoc. of Ithaca, New York, created the Kids Creation Playground. They have built more than 2,000 playgrounds around the world.
Since the local kids create each playground, they are all distinct. An architect from Leathers and Assoc. met with the elementary pupils to find out what they desired from a playground.
The architect received the Defiance history from several adults. With the help of all this knowledge, “Leathers” created an amazing playground.
Through a “grassroots” campaign, more than $150,000 was raised. People made donations in a variety of ways: some dropped a penny in a milk jug; many purchased a personalized brick that was placed at the structure’s entrance; some took part in the neighborhood garage sale; others sponsored a part of the playground itself.
In just six days, almost 1,200 people helped build “Kids Creation”! From sunrise to sunset, the volunteers labored while receiving meals and child care.
The neighborhood is proud of its playground. They believe that because we developed it, you can now play!

#2. Bronson Park

On the southern tip of Defiance, you’ll find Bronson Park. The park has the name of E.S. Bronson, a four-term mayor of Defiance.
There are two sand volleyball courts, two ball fields, three shelter houses, one basketball court, and a playground area in the 25-acre multipurpose park known as Bronson Park.
The Defiance Splash Park was a 2017 addition to Bronson Park, taking the place of the outdated Bronson Pool.
In 2021, renovations to the river swings, shelter huts, and playground apparatus were made at Bronson Park. A boardwalk connecting Bronson Park and Splash Park was constructed in 2021 as well.

At 1185 Karnes Avenue, Eastside Park, formerly known as Compo Park, has been revitalized with new play structures, a basketball court, a shelter house, and a baseball diamond.

#4. Bark & Run Dog Park
- 11795 Precision Way, Defiance, OH 43512
Across from the reservoir, at 11795 Precision Way, is where you’ll find the Defiance Bark and Run Dog Park.
The Defiance Bark’n Runners, a 501c3 organization, manages the dog park, not the city. Many people mistakenly believe that this is a city park, but in reality, they are separate entities.
Membership dues and donations pay for all operating costs; this park does not receive any tax funding. Visit the Defiance Bark and Run Park website to learn more about it!
Small dogs and large dogs can be segregated for safer play in the Defiance Bark and Run Dog Park’s two, one-acre fenced-in zones.
There is more than enough space here for dogs and their owners to play ball and socialize. In addition to chairs and pet waste bag dispensers, the park contains trees that provide shade.
Since there isn’t a water supply, you must bring your drinking water.
Membership:
Dogs must be members of the Defiance Bark and Run Dog Park and pay an annual membership fee to play there.
The first dog with a membership is $45; each subsequent dog is $10. Membership validity is from June to June of the following year.

#5. Kingsbury Park, Pool and Pickleball Facilities

As one of the best parks in Defiance, Ohio, at 102 Auglaize Street, which is next to the Auglaize River and across from the Fort Grounds, you can find Kingsbury Park, Pool, and Pickleball Facilities.
The park’s 15.49 acres include a basketball court, pickleball courts, six shelter buildings, a playground, and a ball field.
The Defiance Baseball Association also plays games at Kingsbury Park.
The East Defiance Men’s Boosters Club began work on Kingsbury Park in 1923, and a large portion of the land was donated.
On the condition that the park be named for the late B. Kingsbury, a lawyer from Defiance, and that it continues to be used for park purposes and the welfare of the public in general, Clara Latty donated a section of the site.
Before the pool was finished in 1929, swimmers utilized a roped-off chute and pier to access the Auglaize River. The baseball diamond was put out in 1924.
The 120 by 60-foot pool was constructed at no expense by Roger Daoust, who also used a lot of volunteer labor and donated time and resources.
Also in 1929, playground equipment worth about $1,000 was bought.

#6. Hometown Heroes Park

Hometown Heroes Park opened in September 2013 and is situated at 648 Clinton Street. Several people in the community worked together to make this park a reality, making it one of the city’s proudest achievements.
The Hometown Heroes Park serves as a permanent memorial to the men and women in the armed forces who are actively serving our wonderful nation.

#7. Pontiac Metro Park

Chief Pontiac was born at Pontiac Park in 1712. In 1763, Chief Pontiac orchestrated a plot to overthrow the British.
With the help of the French, he united the tribes and challenged British dominance. In Illinois, Chief Pontiac was assassinated in 1769.
Along the Maumee River’s bank, a marker at 24 North (424) designates the location as historical.
Over the past few years, Pontiac Park has been revitalized. It has been transformed into a tranquil gathering area for all thanks to a fountain, paths, historical markers, swings, and planting.
In addition to picnic tables where you can eat lunch or dinner, there is a boat dock where you can access the rivers. The yearly fireworks show, car and boat shows, and year-round war reenactments draw the community here.

Sam Hornish, Jr., the 2006 Indianapolis 500 champion, was born and raised in Defiance. There is a memorial in the park.

#8. Reservoir and Disc Golf
- 1261 Precision Way, Defiance, OH 43512
The reservoir is situated at 1261 Precision Way in Defiance, Ohio. It is one of the best locations in the city.
The reservoir contains a 9-hole Frisbee disc golf course off of Precision, a 1-and-a-quarter-mile stone walkway around the top, with six benches evenly distributed along the route and another at the handicapped parking area close to the boat ramp.
Off Kibble Road, there is a 10-space stone parking area with a boat ramp, a dock for boats, and a lit sledding hill.
The first phase of the projected Nature Track, a 10-foot-wide, multi-use asphalt track, was installed in 2015 and covers most of the distance around the reservoir using a piece of the old Miami and Erie Canal along Canal Road.

The Reservoir Nature Trail offers a 2,500-foot boardwalk-style path through the woods, with roughly 500 feet of asphalt extending from the parking lot up to the woods.
It is 8 feet wide and creates a multipurpose, wheelchair-accessible trail through the woodland area of the property surrounding the north side of the municipal reservoir.
By connecting these two trails, a non-motorized, wheelchair-accessible route can be built around the city reservoir and connected to the Buckeye Trail, which currently follows Canal Road.
This promenade provides possibilities for leisurely pursuits like bird viewing, leaf peeping, or simply taking calm nature strolls.

A 30-acre park with one baseball diamond and four soccer fields is where Riverside Park is situated at 849 Riverside Avenue.
The city hired a company to remodel, regrade, and reseed the Optimist Soccer fields at Riverside Park in 2021.
The Defiance Soccer Association and the city of Defiance raised money for this project. This park has walking paths and sporting amenities, including a baseball diamond, a soccer pitch, etc.

The Splash Park is open to everyone and is free. From May through September, it is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. On July 4, 2018, the Splash Park first opened.

#11. Veteran’s Memorial Park at Latty’s Grove
- 610 Williams Street, Defiance, OH 43512
Veteran’s Memorial Grove, founded in 1947 but formerly known as Latty’s Grove, founded in 1937, is a historic site of considerable significance and, as such, provides a perfect and appropriate backdrop for remembering the sacrifices made by Defiance soldiers in all conflicts.
General Wayne arrived at Fort Defiance in 1794 via a road that passed through or was close to the location of Veteran’s Grove. In 1812, the Memorial Grove area served as the location of General Winchester’s Camp No. 2.
Additionally, William H. Harrison, who was a commander at the time, and Col. Richard Johnson arrived at this location following a march from Fort Wayne to Fort Defiance, which they were renaming Fort Winchester.
Abram Smith, a member of the city park board, thought Colonel Johnson let his horses graze in the Memorial Grove region in 1813.
In the past, family reunions and other outdoor gatherings frequently took place in Memorial Grove. Even now, it is still used for the same occasions.
